About Wienerwald

The Vienna forrest or Wienerwald forms the north eastern most part of the alps and is located in lower autria and Vienna. The Wienderwald is a popular recreational area for the Viennese. It is largely designated as a UNESCO heritage sight.

The hilly to semi mountainous region lies between 300 and 900 meters above sea level. From  the eastern edge of the mountain range, one has magnificent views of the capital city Vienna.

The western part of the Wienerwald is sometimes called the Wiesenwienerwald ( grass Vienna forest ). In the early middle ages the forest has been cleared by the farms to form farm lands
