About Stift Heiligenkreuz

Stift Heiligenkreuz or the Heiligenkreuz abbey is located in the Wienerwald region of lower Austria. it has existed without interruption since the foundation in the 1133 and is the second largest Cistercian monastery in Austria. the library inside the monastery houses about 75.000 books of which 34.100 are historical, with 500 manuscripts. With the overtaking of the Benedictine monastery there have been added a 265.000 more items to its catalog.
