About Gmunden
Gmunden is a town located in the upper Austrian part of the Salzkammergut region. Gmunden borders the northern shore of lake traun and has just over 13.000 inhabitants. Due to its location in the foothills of the alps Gmunden is surrounded by numerous mountains. The highest mountain is the traunstein at an elevation of 1691 meters. for the inhabitants this is a popular hiking and climbing destination.
Lake traun occupies a substantial part of the municipality of Gmunden and plays an important role in the towns economy.
