About Tyrol
The state of Tyrol is located in the west of Austria bordering Vorarlberg in the west. Germany in the north. Salzburg and Carinthia in the east and Italy and Switzerland in the south. Tyrol is the land of the mountains, the skiing, the nature, the valleys and the tourism. Tourists visit the state every season of the year and that is with good reason there are few who can rival the state of Tyrol.
Tyrol has been split up in 3 parts of which 2 parts are located in Austria and one part is located in Italy called south Tyrol. The state has been split after the first world war but the people still have much of the same traditions and language.
The largest cities in Tyrol are Innsbruck which is also the capital of Tyrol, Kufstein and Lienz. Apart from these 3 a lot of smaller towns and villages cross the valleys of Tyrol.
Tyrol’s highest mountain is the Grossglockner in the east of the state sharing this mountain with Carinthia. A few of tyrols mountain ranges and valleys are Karwendel, Zillertal, Kitzbühler alpen, Silvretta mountains, Lienz dolomites, Ötztal, Hohe tauern and Stubaital.
Tyrol is home to some great natural spectacles such as canyons, waterfalls and lakes that combined create lasting memories for all visitors.
As said above is tourism king in Tyrol. To give you a idea more than 45 million overnight stays annually in Tyrol. Not only that but almost 1 of every 3 euros in the economy of Tyrol is earned by tourism and tourism employs almost 60.000 Tyrolians 1/4th of the fulltime workforce.
