About Obertauern
Obertauern is a ski resort located in Salzburg. Obertauern is a so called schneeloch which means that there falls a lot of snow in this resort. The season usually runs from November until the first of May. The resort is modern with fast chairlifts. This is not a luxury because when snowfall is down locals and tourists flock to Obertauern for their good snow conditions.
Obertauern is a nice ski resort for average skiers although most of the runs are relatively short. The black run under the gamsleiten 2 is a well-known slope throughout Austria.
Beginners will fill right at home here. The difficult slopes in the resort can be avoided and you will find quite a few blue runs where you can improve your skiing.
Some strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths:
Sufficient off-piste: there is a lot of beautiful terrain without huge pieces of walking where you can enjoy some off-piste skiing/boarding.
Great food on the slopes: with about 15 restaurants on the slopes and good accessibility to the village you won’t be hungry for long
Snow security: Obertauern is one of the snow richest destinations in Austria.
Weak points:
If you want to have a cheap vacation this is not the resort for you.
